CLEAN Cookie Dough

I love the book CLEAN by Alejandro Junger, M.D. It puts forth a clean eating program that restores the body’s ability to heal itself naturally.  My friends and I have experienced the benefits of resetting our bodies health by following Dr. Junger’s program and the results are nothing short of amazing. The weight loss is great, but even better is the renewed energy for life, the mental clarity and overall optimal health experienced. Ever since discovering this 3-week elimination detox program my body has asked me to eat “clean” once a year and I faithfully obey. Now, I’m not going to lie, it is an elimination diet and although it is a safe and relatively easy way to cleanse the body; excluding dairy, eggs, bread, sugar, caffeine, alcohol and all packaged food is difficult! At least it is for me… Did I mention you have to eliminate bread! Now, you’re probably wondering, what’s this got to do with cookie dough? Which brings me to the point of this story…

Back in 2015, I was visiting my very dear friend Elizabeth on the beautiful island of St. Croix. Our St. Croix retreat is always a special and rare time for us free from husbands and kids. On this fateful trip, as life would have it, we were both two weeks in to our clean eating detox diet… Not exactly an ideal time to be on a vacation, but for us, it was fun to be going on week-three and in the final stretch together. Plus, once you’re two weeks into the diet, eating clean is a breeze and your energy levels are great. That said, we were both craving our favorite dessert, a chocolate chip cookie to be precise. That’s when it happened… A moment I will never forget, when Elizabeth shared with me the almost too-good-to be true desert of my dreams.

Yes, I am talking about cookie dough, but not just any ordinary cookie dough… a healthy cookie dough that doesn’t violate the Clean program. As Elizabeth understood it, a small amount of maple syrup was allowable especially on week-three of the diet. And that is how the most delicious almond flour based, maple syrup sweetened chocolate chip cookie came into my life. We used sugar free chocolate chips that day and we didn’t miss the sugar at all. The maple syrup sweetened the cookie to perfection. The moist chewy texture and flavor of the cookie was like a chocolate chip cookie you’d get at the Four Seasons. Best of all, this plant-based dough was vegan, gluten-free, grain-free and completely safe to eat raw.

Okay, so let me let you in on a little secret about me… Ever since I was a young teenager, I’ve had an obsession with raw cookie dough. There were numerous summers when I would make a batch of cookie dough every week and keep it in the refrigerator just to eat it raw. Hey, it was the 80’s back then and we didn’t know that traditional cookie dough could make you sick, but I know this now.  So, when Elizabeth and I indulged in those first few bites of our miracle cookie dough, you can’t even imagine the elation I was experiencing. I loved this healthy cookie dough even more than the traditional egg and wheat dough that I grew up on. I couldn’t believe I was on a detox diet and eating my most favorite decadent dessert GUILT FREE!!! The rest they say, is history. Now that I’ve found the clean dessert of my dreams, I enjoy this guilt free dessert on the daily.

That’s how Sara’s Cosmic Cookie Dough was born. I figure, when you discover something that’s almost too good to be true, you need to share it. Which is what I’ve been doing with family and friends ever since that fateful day on the island of St. Croix. I have sense developed the original recipe further and have added two new flavors, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip and Hot Chocolate Chip (with a touch of Cayenne) to the line. Today, there is a little sugar in the Mini Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips that I put in the dough, but it’s almost half the sugar than traditional cookie dough. Made with 4 plant-based superfoods, the dough suppresses appetite, increases energy, improves heart and immune health and provides rich antioxidants without sacrificing flavor. Click here to learn more about the health benefits of Sara’s Cosmic Cookie Dough. You can now enjoy cookies and cookie dough as a healthful energy snack that makes your body feel good. Here’s to eating clean!

Sometime, I’ll tell you why it’s Cosmic ;-)
